 These images of spirits and ghosts are from a lost Spiritualist
archive of original glass plate photographs. The history
of some of these remarkable spirit manifestations has been
lost.
Regarding the previous picture I suggested that maybe the photographer had scratched words onto the glass plate and reversed it when he exposed it onto photo paper. In this one we are assured that no camera was used and that the words appeared on their own accord. I do however have to question here if the plate was totally secure and that the photographer had not scratched onto the glass plate in advance of getting people to hold it.
With experiments like this one, the early Spiritualists usually went to great lengths to ensure that no cheating was possible and would take testimonials or affidavits to testify that no cheating is possible. Nowadays Spiritualists are much more rigorous and have a better knowledge of photography. Today they work with infra red video cameras in the dark séance room to capture spirit photographs. Many successful results have been conducted at Stansted Hall the headquarters of Spiritualism today.
